What's MICAH about?

Summary

Micah was likely compiled from writings done at different times before and after the invasions of the country by the super-powers of the time. Part of the book foresees the invasion of the northern part of the country and attributes that to the extreme wealth of powerful people and their lack of care for the poor. Some of these accusations are among the most excoriating accusations in the Bible of wealthy people who care nothing for the powerless. Later parts of the book apply the same ideas to the destruction of Jerusalem, about two hundred years later, and finally parts apply that understanding from the perspective of the people who returned to rebuild Jerusalem.

How Micah is of help to us

The book challenges us to view international events of our time from the perspective of justice rather than from the perspective of pure power struggles.
