Psalm 103
God has been so generous to us! God has given us life when death was close, has been generous when we abandoned God’s justice, has cared for us as a doting parent does, and all in spite of our lives being so short. Even angels and creation bless God and we join with them!

Exodus 12.28-39                           What’s Exodus about?
God’s patience with injustice and oppression had come to an end, and God acts with mighty power to remove those who had enslaved the people. The wealth which the slave-owning culture had accumulated from slavery is transferred to the slaves. In the rush to leave for freedom they had no time to allow bread to rise, and so the use of unleavened bread became central to the Passover rituals of later generations which commemorated this dramatic event.

Mark 16.9-20                           What’s Mark about?
Because nobody actually sees the risen Jesus in Mark’s gospel, we think that later scribes decided that something must have been left out and they added stories that would make its ending more like the endings in the later gospels. However the style of writing is very different from the rest of Mark, and the earliest manuscripts don’t have these two endings, so we are certain they are later additions, summarizing stories which are found in the later gospels. The intent of these additions is to emphasize God’s triumph in Christ’s resurrection.

This week’s collect:

Lord of life and power,
through the mighty resurrection of your Son,
you have overcome the old order of sin and death
and have made all things new in him.
May we, being dead to sin
and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
reign with him in glory,
who with you and the Holy Spirit is alive,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
