Psalm 141
Help me to be faithful to you, O God, and not be caught in evil.

Psalm 143
I am almost crushed by my enemy, and by my own weakness. But I remember how good you were in the past, and I still hope in you. Otherwise, there is no hope.

Isaiah 24: 14-23                            What’s about?
The poet imagines that the evil on the earth destroys everything, the whole world totters.  But God will put evil into prison and bring justice to Jerusalem.

Matthew 20: 17-28                            What’s about?
Jesus speaks again about his approaching execution and the disciples are more concerned about who will get the most important chairs in heaven. He comes to serve, not to be served. Matthew is critiquing those in the Christian community who are not committed to generosity and the sacrifice that involves.

This week’s collect:

Almighty and everlasting God,
whose will it is to restore all things
in your well-beloved Son, our Lord and King,
grant that the peoples of the earth,
now divided and enslaved by sin,
may be freed and brought together
under his gentle and loving rule;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
